GPU Shipments still down significantly year over year

John Peddie Research has been released it latest GPU shipment figures for the 1^ST quarter of 2009. JPR says that numbers are the leading indicator of the PC market since each PC sold has a GPU of the some sort inside, though GPUs are used outside of the PC market as well.

JPR reports says that during Q3 and Q4 2008, computer makers stopped buying GPUs in order to run down inventory levels in preparation for a long recession. However, as inventories exhausted the channel began to the order GPUs again in Q1 2009.

Gigabyte GSmart PDA Phones Launched in India

Gigabyte Communications has forayed into the rapidly growing Indian mobile phone market with the launch of its GSmart phones. Gigabyte will initially introduce three models of its touch screen Windows Mobile PDA phones GSmart - MS820, MW702 and MW700. Gigabyte Communications is wholly-owned by Gigabyte Technology.

These handsets are based on the latest operating system, Windows Mobile Professional, with powerful data management and multimedia features, the company said.

GPS, Smart Touch, high resolution camera, motion sensors, push mail and high speed Edge/HSDPA connectivity are some of the features of these Windows Mobile PDA phones.

The GSmart touch screen PDA phones also feature easy user interface, high resolution camera, built in GPS, WiFi, FM radio, and are ideal for business people who are often on travel for work or for leisure.

The GSmart MS820 has a 5 mega pixel camera with VGA panel display and features like auto focus, face detection with video mode. Its Smart Sensor provides the best vertical or horizontal screen display and allows the user to experience motion sensitive mobile games, the company.

Other features of the GSmart MS820 include Windows Mobile Direct Push email, SMS, MMS, Window Live Messenger and WiFi, Bluetooth, WAP and USB connectivity. It can work virtually with all audio, video and image formats.

The other two GSmart models MW702 and MW700 are at entry level price range and also have Windows Mobile Professional operating system. They feature Smart Touch User Interface, GPS tracking, WiFi, Bluetooth, WAP and USB connectivity, Radio, Sim Manager, Recorder, etc.

The Indian rupee today depreciated by 3 paise against to the Dollar is early trade on increased dollar demand by the importers and expectations of the foreign fund outflows from domestic stock markets line with subdued trend other Asian markets.

The Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the domestic currency was quoted at 51.80

Dollar in early trade, down 3 paise from its previous day's close.

The rupee had been closed lower 23 paise at 51.77/78 dollar yesterday.

Dealers said increased demand for the dollar from importers weakened d rupee.
